How do I take injectable Semaglutide?

Alert
Semaglutide is a prescription weight-management medication taken once weekly. It is taken on the same day each week, any time of day, with or without food.

Before You Begin

Review Your Dosage and Medication Information

Included in your package is a guide outlining your specific dosage, the schedule you should follow, and when to increase the dose as directed by your doctor. Before preparing your medication, carefully read through this information to understand your dosing schedule.

Your starting dose will be a low amount, which allows your body to adjust to the medication. Be patient with this process and do not try to increase your dose on your own. Follow the dosing schedule your doctor has prescribed, and inject your medication only once per week (or as otherwise directed).

Being informed about your dosing schedule is essential for getting the most benefit from your medication.

Units vs mg vs mL

The syringes included in your shipment are measured in units and increase by increments of 10 units.

Your prescription will include the number of units you are supposed to take each week and for how many weeks.
Notes
Example Prescription (Please refer to your prescription for your specific dosage instructions)
S1/S2/S3 (Month 1-3), Rx Plus: Semaglutide compound 2.5mg/ml (2ml vial)
Rx Plus Solutions LLC 2 Milliliter Refills: 0 Supply: 84 Days
Compound: Semaglutide compound 2.5mg/ml (2mL vial)
Directions: Inject 0.25mg (10 units) under the skin once weekly for 4 weeks. Then inject 0.5mg (20 units) under the skin once weekly for 8 weeks.

So the most important part to pay attention to is the number of units. 1mL (milliliter) = 100 units, so a 2mL vial contains 200 units, a 3mL vial contains 300 units, and so on.

Using the example prescription above, 10 units for 4 weeks (40 units) plus 20 units for 8 weeks (160 units) is a total of 200 units, and it's a 2mL vial, which is 200 units, so there is enough medication to follow the prescribed dosing schedule.

If there is any excess medication after you have completed your prescribed dosing schedule, it should be discarded.

Quick Tips for Success

  1. Set a Weekly Reminder: Semaglutide injections are taken once a week, so set a reminder on your phone or calendar to stay on track and be sure to note the number of units you need to take each week (as prescribed by your doctor) for quick and easy reference.
  2. Track Your ProgressKeep a journal of how you feel and any changes you notice each week.
  3. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle: Pairing your medication with a balanced diet and regular exercise will maximize results.

Injection Instructions

Step 1: Remove the cap from the top of your vial, then take an alcohol swab and wipe down the rubber stopper on top of the vial. It’s important to do this each time before you inject to minimize any bacteria that may have gathered while your medication was in the refrigerator.

Step 2Draw up the amount of air in the syringe you plan to inject (e.g. 10 units of air to inject 10 units of medication).

Step 3Inject the air into the vial to create a vacuum, then turn the vial upside down and draw the solution past your dose. This ensures that you have a little extra to work with. It’s important to make sure your syringe has no air bubbles. If you do notice any bubbles, give the syringe a little flick until they rise to the top. While a small amount of air is generally safe since the injection goes into your subcutaneous layer (not directly into a vein or artery), it’s best to remove any excess. Once you’re sure there are no air bubbles, push the excess solution back into the vial until you reach the exact dose prescribed by your doctor.

Step 4Clean off the application site (the location on your body you intend to inject the medication) with an alcohol swab.

Step 5Pinch the location on your body you intend to inject the medication (either the sides of your stomach, the tops of your thighs, or the backs of your arms) and insert the medication at a 90° angle, then inject the medication. Make sure the entire contents of the syringe is injected before removing the needle.

Step 6Once the medication is fully injected, remove the needle, recap the syringe, and dispose accordingly into a sharps container or other plastic container.
Warning
It's important to properly dispose of your used syringes. Do not throw the syringes away in your household trash. Instead, use an FDA-cleared sharps disposable container or a sturdy household container with a tight-fitting lid, like a heavy-duty plastic container.
